Modernisation of Curriculum in Textile Engineering and Textile Technology in Universiti Teknologi MARA
“SMARTEX” has been funded with support from the European Commission (Project reference number 610465-EPP-1-2019-1-EL-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP)
The Faculty of Applied Sciences (FSG), Universiti Teknologi MARA, (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia is involved in a project funded by the ERASMUS+ Programme from the European Union entitled “Smart textiles – Modernisation of the Curriculum of Textile Engineering and Textile Technology in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Pakistan” or rather known as SMARTEX. The project is for a 3-year duration that started from 15 January 2020 and should end on 14 January 2023. Due to COVID, the project is now extended to July 2023.
The project includes a collaborative initiative between three European universities and six Asian Universities. The universities involved in this ten-team project include University of Ghent, Belgium; Universitat Politecnica de Valencia, Spain; University of West Attica, Athens, Greece; NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan; Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan; Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia: STTT Bandung, Indonesia; and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn, Johor, Malaysia. A consultancy company based in Piraeus, Greece; IDEC S.A. is also involved in the project by providing high technology training to the universities.
The collaborative efforts include the development of the new curriculum on Technical Textiles & Smart Textiles and staff exchange between the Asian and European universities, and also internships for the Asian staffs and students in European textile industries and universities. The program is expected to generate about 20 MoUs between UiTM and textile-related industries in the Asian and European countries.
