Asian Family Businesses are the backbone of the Asian economy, however the specific characteristics of family businesses which can affect their longevity and their competitiveness remain unexplored. The FAB project aims to develop a MSc. This is to address the unique challenges that family businesses in Asian region face and hamper their growth and development.
The project is coordinated by the National University of Management in Cambodia with 16 Asian partner HEIs from Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. There are 3 HEIs and 2 non-academic institutions from the European union.
The FAB project develops a new master’s degree in Family Business Management supported by (A) a VET professional training course, (B) centers of excellence that promote cooperation, innovation, and career development, and (C) a VLE consisting of an Academic Space, a Virtual Library and Massive Online Open Courses.
The MS curriculum is designed to promote a shift from degree focused qualification to competence-based qualification. In this context, significant know how has been transferred from the European Educational System with an advanced, practical-based curriculum for Family Business Management thus helping build the capacity of the Asian partner HEIs to improve the level of competences and skills offered, and address the existing absence of a similar programme with mixed model MOOCs for Family Business professional courses, including non-formal and informal learning. This is address their needs based on need analysis research in terms of required professional skills in the field of entrepreneurship and family business management, training needs and enhance the employability of graduates. At the same time, FAB reinforce the capacity of the PC HEIs by training their academic staff in the new courses and appropriate delivery methods achieved by organising study visits to EU HEI and capacity building training workshops in each PC as well as developing a training Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to support the PC HEIs’ academic staff during and after the project.
The ERASMUS+ Resource and Learning Centre serves as Family Business Contact Point that acts as foci for research and innovation to ensure that family business education will remain high and sustainable in the regional priorities agenda beyond the completion of the project. It promotes better dialogue between the family business sector and the government and help convey the concerns faced by the sector into policy consultation processes.
